An article by Mark Polston, a managing director at WSP, describes how the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has built and scaled an “alternative delivery” program since 2021, working with WSP. Instead of the traditional design-bid-build sequence, these projects bring contractors in during design. With progressive design-build, one team designs and builds and the price is set only after scope and risks are worked out together. With construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC), the designer and contractor are hired separately but the contractor advises on cost, constructability and schedule during design. The article says KYTC's main goals were faster schedules and more flexibility, for example moving ahead before right-of-way and scope are fully settled.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet expected to open the state’s first roadway constructed on a foam base ahead of schedule. A one-mile section of KY 8 along the bank of the Ohio River in Campbell County is being reconstructed in attempt to prevent problems with cracking and slipping of the road.

Department of Highways employee Frank Chandler died of injuries suffered during a Aug. 19 accident on KY 8 (River Road) in Kenton County. Chandler had worked for the state for 30 years, the last 14 of which where spent in Northern Kentucky.

Chandler was struck by a car driven by Steve Stoinoff, 84, of Villa Hills. Police said that Stoinoff did not appear to be under the influence alcohol or other drugs.

Development of the Newport Levee has caused a considerable increase in traffic (and traffic accidents) on I-471's Daniel Carter Beard Bridge over the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Newport. Newport city leaders are pressing to rebuild the ramps from I-471 south bound to KY 8; however, the project is not currently listed on the six year highway plan.
