KY 90

KYTC District 3's weekly summaries show a busy construction season across the 10-county region. The U.S. 31-W Bypass in northern Bowling Green (KY 234 to Park Street) is being widened to five lanes, with traffic narrowed to one lane each way until 2027. The I-165 Green River bridges in Butler County are being fully restored, with southbound traffic crossed over and a 55 mph limit through fall 2026. U.S. 68 is being realigned for 1.2 miles between KY 729 (Green County) and KY 745 (Metcalfe County) with a new bridge over Caney Fork Creek, and the U.S. 68/KY 70 intersection has been rebuilt slightly east of its old location. U.S. 79 is being widened from the Tennessee line to mile marker 3 and was closed overnight in Russellville for resurfacing. U.S. 231 (Main Street) in Butler County closed overnight for resurfacing, and lane closures began on I-165 near the I-65 interchange.

In Barren County, a nine-mile KY 90 safety corridor between Cave City and Glasgow is adding alternating passing lanes and turn lanes, and a U.S. 31-E Highway Safety Improvement Project (mile points 8–12) adds a four-foot centerline buffer to reduce head-on crashes, plus a turn lane at Windy Hills Road. Smaller items: a new 1.8-mile KY 185 alignment opened in northern Warren County (the old road became KY 3557), and lane assignments changed at KY 242 and U.S. 31-W to improve flow.

From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways District 3 on June 10, 2009:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Beginning on Monday, June 15, Kentucky Transportation crews will begin the reconstruction of the bridge on KY 1330 at mile marker 2.2 in Barren County.

This work involves the demolition and reconstruction of the existing bridge over Falling Timber Creek and will require KY 1330/Kino Road to be CLOSED from Monday, June 15 through September 14.

A detour route will be set up and signed using KY 640 and KY 90. The closure will begin at 6:30 am on Monday.

The decision to use weathered steel to construct a new KY 90 bridge over Lake Cumberland has drawn some criticism. The steel never needs to be painted; however, some say the brand new bridge already looks old and rusted.

The old two-lane bridge at the site (constructed in 1950) is in the process of being demolished.

A wreck this morning at I-65 mile marker 51 has forced the closure of I-65 southbound at exit 53 (KY 90). A detour has been posted. Up-to-date information on traffic conditions can be found at: www.511.ky.gov

The new Glasgow Outer Loop will be mostly complete by the fall. The new highway will connect KY 90 west of Glasgow to US 68/KY 80 east of the city.

The only remaining uncompleted sections of the highway are two connections to the Cumberland Parkway. There is currently no funding to begin construction on these sections.

Work on the new bridge that will carry KY 90 over the eastern end of Lake Cumberland is ready to enter the next phase of construction. Work to construct a bridge pier in the middle of the lake is nearly complete. Work was delayed last spring and summer due to unusual amount of rain.

A number of new planning studies have been released including a new connector near Grayson in Carter County , reconstruction of US 27 in Garrard and Lincoln Counties , reconstruction of KY 101 in Warren County , reconstruction of KY 90 in Barren County , and reconstruction of US 25 in Boone County .
