I-75 Widening Through Lexington Nears Completion; Newtown Pike and City Work Continue

KYTC says the I-75 widening through Lexington remains on schedule. Final paving should wrap up around the end of October, with all eight lanes open from Newtown Pike to the Southern Split (the I-64/I-75 split south of the city). Contractors will spend November on signs and striping, and drivers are asked to obey the 55 mph work-zone limit until then. Paving on Euclid Avenue has also finished.

Drivers say the orange barrels keep coming. The state's widening of Newtown Pike, one of Lexington's main routes in and out, has been underway for more than two and a half years. A delivery driver based in the work zone said it makes the evening rush "10 times worse," while a local shop owner said cut-through traffic on Newtown Pike has eased as the I-75 work winds down. Lexington's public works department lists more than two dozen active projects affecting drivers, most of them short-term. One longer closure: Cooper Drive at University Drive is down to one lane until mid-December.
