From Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 11:
Traffic Signal Removal Study to Begin Thursday, Oct. 15 in Barbourville
MANCHESTER, Ky. (October 9, 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that a traffic signal removal study will begin Thursday, Oct. 15, at the intersection of KY 2420 (Knox Street) and KY 2413 (Broadway) in Barbourville.
During the study period, the traffic signal will be placed in a yellow-red flashing operation.
Motorists traveling on KY 2420 (Knox Street) will encounter a flashing yellow signal, while motorists traveling on KY 2413 (Broadway) will encounter a flashing red signal and will be required to stop before proceeding through the intersection.
The study will remain in place for a minimum of 90 days while traffic operations at the intersection are evaluated.
If the study determines that the traffic signal is no longer warranted, the flashing traffic pattern may remain in place permanently and the signal could ultimately be removed.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the intersection, pay close attention to the flashing signal indications and be prepared for the change in traffic control.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can access travel and traffic conditions at http://goky.ky.govor contribute their reports at www.waze.com
