I-65 Central Corridor Traffic Advisory:
Reminder: Chestnut Street under I-65 to Temporarily Close on Monday
Louisville, Ky. (Oct. 16, 2026) – As progress continues on the I-65 Central Corridor bridge replacement and rehabilitation project, Chestnut Street under I-65 is scheduled to temporarily close in downtown Louisville.
Chestnut Street under I-65 is expected to close early Monday, Oct. 19 and reopen by late November so crews can complete demolition work on the bridge. A signed detour [Outside Link] will be in place.
This is expected to be the last temporary street closure under downtown bridges this year. Click here [Outside Link] to review a complete list of local street closures for the year. Intermittent lane closures are anticipated as work continues.
Muhammad Ali Boulevard Pedestrian Access
Sidewalk access on Muhammad Ali under I-65 is scheduled to reopen by Friday, Oct. 23 as crews complete demolition work in the area. A signed pedestrian detour [Outside Link] is in place.
Accessing Downtown/Hospitals
Drivers exiting northbound I-65 at Broadway (Exit 136 A) who are not accessing LOUMED facilities (downtown hospitals, JCTC and others) should turn right and go east on Broadway. Clay Street can be used to travel north into downtown. Drivers with destinations outside the downtown medical district are advised to use alternate routes and to avoid the nearby sections of Broadway, Brook, Chestnut, Floyd, Gray, Jacob Muhammad Ali Boulevard, and Preston streets during ongoing construction. Access remains open [Outside Link] to all downtown hospitals.
Mapping apps will guide drivers to the best route at their time of travel.
