Highway Safety Improvement Project Starts Monday at KY 90 and KY 92 in Wayne County
Roundabout project is scheduled for completion in August 2027
SOMERSET, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2026) – Work on a $3.6 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) highway safety improvement project at the intersection of KY 90 and KY 92 in Wayne County is expected to start Monday, Nov. 2.
The project will convert the existing four-way intersection into a roundabout designed to improve traffic flow, enhance safety and reduce congestion along this busy city corridor.
Construction will take place in multiple phases, beginning with the initial phase next week. This phase will primarily involve shoulder work through the intersection. During this phase, motorists should expect occasional lane restrictions and flaggers at or near the intersection. The speed limit will also be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use caution and pay close attention to signs and flaggers when traveling through the work zone.
For more information about how KYTC works to improve highway safety, including the use of roundabouts, visit the SAFERoad Solutions webpage. Roundabouts are a proven safety countermeasure that reduces conflict points - places where vehicles cross paths - and can reduce fatal crashes by 90 percent and injury crashes by 75 percent compared with traditional intersections.
Bluegrass Contracting Corporation was awarded the $3.62 million contract. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2027.
