Work to Begin on Twin Bridges on Monday
From Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2:
Work to Begin on Twin Bridges on Monday
Repairs on track to be completed by next weekend
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is scheduled to begin repairs to the U.S. 41 Twin Bridges in Henderson on Monday, Nov. 9, with work expected to continue throughout the week.
The work includes repairs to the southbound bridge's support structure, including replacement of damaged rocker bearings and repairs to a structural support beam. Completing these repairs will allow KYTC to begin transitioning traffic back to its normal configuration, with the goal of reopening all four lanes much sooner than the expected Thanksgiving deadline.
Work is expected to begin on Monday, Nov. 9, 2026. As most work is going on below the bridge, motorists will likely not see much change in the existing traffic flow for the first half of the week. Wednesday night or Thursday morning, however, motorists should expect traffic on the southbound bridge to switch from the left lane to the right lane as work progresses.
During the final phase of the repair project, there will be a full closure of the southbound bridge on Friday night. During this closure, all traffic crossing the Ohio River will utilize the northbound bridge. The northbound bridge, which has been carrying two northbound lanes and one southbound lane, will be reduced to one 15-foot lane in each direction.
This configuration will only be in place on Friday night. Once work is completed, crews will begin the process of moving both southbound lanes back to the southbound bridge.
Motorists could continue to see some delays on the northbound bridge while it is restripped to its normal two-lane configuration.
KYTC appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists who rely on the Twin Bridges. Crews and contractors are working to complete these repairs as quickly and safely as possible and restore normal traffic flow across the Ohio River.

Repair on Track for Twin Bridges
Reopening scheduled by Thanksgiving
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 28, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues working toward reopening all four lanes of the U.S. 41 Twin Bridges in Henderson before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Materials needed to complete both repair projects on the southbound bridge are still being fabricated but are expected to be available to begin work the week of Nov. 9. Work is expected to start immediately and last up to one week. That would have the bridge reopening prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
That schedule remains dependent on confirmation of material deliveries needed to complete the repair. In the event there are any changes to the current traffic configuration during repairs, the KYTC will notify the public and media as soon as possible.
The current traffic configuration, which diverts one lane of southbound traffic onto the northbound bridge, will remain in place until the necessary repairs are completed.
KYTC appreciates the public's continued patience as crews work to complete the repairs and restore all four lanes of traffic across the Ohio River as quickly and safely as possible.
