New Bridge Connecting Covington and Newport May Open this Weekend
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 28, 2001 article
that a new four lane bridge carrying KY 1120 over the Licking River between Covington and Newport could open this weekend. The bridge replaces an aging two lane span. The bridge will be dedicated and named in October.
I-64 Project in Louisville Likely to End this Weekend
According to this Courier-Journal article
, the weekend closings of I-64 will likely end this weekend. If so this rehabilitation project will end seven weeks ahead of schedule.
Bids to be Let for New Glasgow Loop Road
The Glasgow Daily Times reports in this Sept. 22, 2001 article
that bids will be let for a portion of the new Glasgow outer loop on Sept. 28. When complete this road will connect with the Nunn Cumberland Parkway to the east and to the west of Glasgow and loop around the north of the city.
KY 30 Public Meetings in Jackson and Owsley County
The KYTC has released materials from two upcoming public meetings
regarding reconstruction of KY 30 in Owsley and Jackson Counties. The meetings will be held on October 4 in Tyner and October 9 in Booneville.
I-66 Public Meetings Postponed
The KYTC has postponed two I-66 public meetings
(no longer online; see here
for more recent information) that were scheduled for October 16 and October 18. No information on why or when the meetings will be held.
Road Contractors Get Immunity to Testify
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 22, 2001 article
that road contractors have been granted immunity from personal prosecution if they testify before a federal grand jury investigating lack of competition in state paving bids. More information can be found in this Courier-Journal article

Planning Study about US 460 Reconstruction in Montgomery County
The KYTC has posted materials for a planning study
concerning the reconstruction of part of US 460 in Montgomery County.
KYTC Wants to Talk to AA Highway Drivers
According to thus Sept. 21, 2001 article
in the Cincinnati Enquirer, the KYTC wants to meet with drivers on the AA Highway between Campbell and Mason Counties. The KYTC will setup shop in two gas stations along the route to interview drivers about the safety of the highway. This is part of a study to determine whether the road should be widened.

internet worm, since the site was also down for an extended period when the Code Red worm arose.
Morganfield Bypass Could Open by December 1
According to this Sept. 7, 2001 article
from the Union County Advocate, the new US 60 bypass around Morganfield could open as soon as December 1. The road is a super two and will connect with a future four lane highway between Henderson and Morganfield.
New La Grange Bypass Being Studied

that a new La Grange bypass is being studied.
KYTC Supports US 119 through Pine Mountain

report that the KYTC will seek money from Appalachian Regional Commission to build a tunnel for US 119 through Pine Mountain in Letcher County.
Another I-275 Ramp Closing
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 11, 2001 article
that another ramp at the I-275/I-75/I-71 interchange will be temporarily closed for repaving.
Purchase Parkway to be Renamed for Former Gov. Carroll
The Jackson Purchase Parkway will be renamed for former Gov. Julian Carroll according to this Sept. 9 article
in the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Courier-Journal
also has a report on the subject. No word on what the exact new name of the parkway will be.
Upcoming I-66 Public Meetings in Bowling Green and Brownsville
The KYTC has released materials from an upcoming public meeting
regarding the proposed I-66 between Interstate 65 and the William H. Natcher Parkway. The meetings will be held in Bowling Green on October 16 and Brownsville on October 18.
Report on New Louisville Bridges Expected Soon
The Courier-Journal reports in this Sept. 7, 2001 article
that the results of a study outlining the strengths and weaknesses of nine possible bridge routes linking Jefferson County and Southern Indiana are expected next month. The eastern bridge alternatives would link I-265 in Indiana and Kentucky. Already, groups are preparing to fight both for and against the proposed bridges.

Kenton County Sheriff to Patrol I-71/I-75 in Northern Kentucky
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 7, 2001 article
that the Kenton County Sheriff will be aiding Fort Mitchell Police in patrolling I-71/I-75. Construction on the northbound lanes has slowed the response time of Fort Mitchell police; the extra help is expected to help the response time.

Lawmakers Claim Eastern Part of State Misses out on Road Funding

that lawmakers from Eastern from Eastern Kentucky have voiced complaints that Eastern counties are being left out of road plans.
Bowling Green Eliminates Traffic Commission
The Bowling Green Daily News reports in this Sept. 5, 2001 article
that Bowling Green's city council has voted to eliminate its traffic commission. It is believe that this will streamline the traffic complaint process.
New Flying J Opens in Cannonsburg
The Ashland Daily-Independent reports in this Sept. 5, 2001 article
that a new Flying J has opened off of I-64 in Cannonsburg. Roadgeeks seem to like Flying J's for some reason.
New Access Ramp to Ashland Town Center Mall Opens

that a new access ramp to the Ashland Town Center Mall from US 23 has opened.
KSP Adds New Low Profile Vehicles
This Sept. 3, 2001 article
from the Glasgow Daily Times reports that the Kentucky State Police is adding new Camaroes to their fleet of vehicles. These vehicles, while still marked, are meant to have a lower profile than the traditional gray Crown-Victorias. The KSP has termed them Special Enforcement Vehicles. The trooper interviewed in the article will be patrolling the Nunn and Blue Grass Parkways and I-65.
Northern Kentucky Group Attacks Road Congestion
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 3, 2001 article
that a group has been created to complain about congestion in Kenton County. The article points out that the transportation infrastructure in Kenton County, namely KY 16 and KY 17, has not kept up with the growth in the area.
