New Bridge Connecting Covington and Newport May Open this Weekend

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 28, 2001 article [Outside Link] that a new four lane bridge carrying KY 1120 over the Licking River between Covington and Newport could open this weekend. The bridge replaces an aging two lane span. The bridge will be dedicated and named in October.

Bids to be Let for New Glasgow Loop Road

The Glasgow Daily Times reports in this Sept. 22, 2001 article [Outside Link] that bids will be let for a portion of the new Glasgow outer loop on Sept. 28. When complete this road will connect with the Nunn Cumberland Parkway to the east and to the west of Glasgow and loop around the north of the city.

Information on I-69 Alignment near Fulton

KYTC Wants to Talk to AA Highway Drivers

According to thus Sept. 21, 2001 article [Outside Link] in the Cincinnati Enquirer, the KYTC wants to meet with drivers on the AA Highway between Campbell and Mason Counties. The KYTC will setup shop in two gas stations along the route to interview drivers about the safety of the highway. This is part of a study to determine whether the road should be widened.

Morganfield Bypass Could Open by December 1

According to this Sept. 7, 2001 article [Outside Link] from the Union County Advocate, the new US 60 bypass around Morganfield could open as soon as December 1. The road is a super two and will connect with a future four lane highway between Henderson and Morganfield.

Upcoming I-66 Public Meetings in Bowling Green and Brownsville

The KYTC has released materials from an upcoming public meeting [Outside Link] regarding the proposed I-66 between Interstate 65 and the William H. Natcher Parkway. The meetings will be held in Bowling Green on October 16 and Brownsville on October 18.

Report on New Louisville Bridges Expected Soon

The Courier-Journal reports in this Sept. 7, 2001 article [Outside Link] that the results of a study outlining the strengths and weaknesses of nine possible bridge routes linking Jefferson County and Southern Indiana are expected next month. The eastern bridge alternatives would link I-265 in Indiana and Kentucky. Already, groups are preparing to fight both for and against the proposed bridges.

Kenton County Sheriff to Patrol I-71/I-75 in Northern Kentucky

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports in this Sept. 7, 2001 article [Outside Link] that the Kenton County Sheriff will be aiding Fort Mitchell Police in patrolling I-71/I-75. Construction on the northbound lanes has slowed the response time of Fort Mitchell police; the extra help is expected to help the response time.

KSP Adds New Low Profile Vehicles

This Sept. 3, 2001 article [Outside Link] from the Glasgow Daily Times reports that the Kentucky State Police is adding new Camaroes to their fleet of vehicles. These vehicles, while still marked, are meant to have a lower profile than the traditional gray Crown-Victorias. The KSP has termed them Special Enforcement Vehicles. The trooper interviewed in the article will be patrolling the Nunn and Blue Grass Parkways and I-65.
