Transportation Cabinet awards six highway improvement contracts for five District 10 counties
Projects include bridge repairs in Wolfe County, paving in Breathitt, Estill, Menifee and Powell counties
JACKSON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded six contracts totaling more than $3.5 million for highway projects in five counties within the Department of Highways District 10.
Contracts awarded as part of the July 2012 letting are:
· A $141,322.22 contract to repair the bridge carrying KY 1419 over the Red River in Wolfe County. The project is to be completed within 30 calendar days once it begins, but by no later than Nov. 15.
· A $1,922,559.30 contract to resurface 17.02 miles of KY 1098 in Breathitt County. The project is to be completed by Nov. 15.
· A $375,790.57 to resurface portions of KY 851, KY 1457 and KY 3325 in Estill County. The project is to be completed by Nov. 30.
· A $313,765.90 contract to resurface portions of KY 613 and KY 3352 in Powell County. The project is to be completed by Nov. 30.
· A $433,477.50 contract to resurface portions of KY 713, KY 1240 and KY 2071 in Menifee County. The project is to be completed by Nov. 30.
· A $364,649.23 contract to resurface portions of KY 541, KY 1098 and KY 3237 in Breathitt County. The project is to be completed by Nov. 30.

JACKSON, Ky. – An entry submitted by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways District 10's design team was chosen as the winner of the William S. Gulick In-house Project Excellence Award in statewide competition.

Intersection Work in Stanton Will Close Roads

JACKSON, KY – The upcoming second phase of concrete paving at the intersection of KY 213 (Main Street) and KY 11/KY 15 (College Avenue) in Statnton means detours will again be in place for several days.

The state is still cleaning up from recent ice and wind storms.
“Hoax” Claims Mountain Parkway Rest Area to be Closed
In late July, someone posted signs at the Slade rest area claiming that the Mountain Parkway’s only rest area would be closed. The signs suggested that motorists call Frankfort to stop the closing; however, the state has no plans to close the rest area. Fifteen Projects Moved from Six-Year Plan to “Unscheduled Needs” List
When the 2004 Recommended Six-Year Highway Plan was released Transportation Cabinet Secretary Maxwell Clay Bailey assured legislators that no projects had been removed the 2002 Six-Year Plan; however, the Courier-Journal has found that fifteen projects scheduled under the 2002 plan were moved to the unscheduled needs list in the new 2004 plan.

KYTC Closes Some Rest Areas; Opens Others
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be closing several rest areas and opening a few new ones over the next few years. Two rest areas on I-64 in Shelby County, three rest areas on I-65 in Warren County and Hart County, and two rest areas on I-75 in Madison County will soon be or have already been closed; however, Kentucky is planning to build two new rest areas on I-65 in Hart County, and a one large rest area to serve both northbound and southbound traffic will be built on I-75 in Madison County. The new Madison County rest area will have parking for 400 cars, 100 trucks, and 13 oversized vehicles.
